A note from the teacher: what you'll notice about your child's classroom

What you will see in my classroom?  The first thing you will notice is my love for children.  I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was 7.  It was actually a toss up between that and an actress.  I think I chose the better career.  Few people can say they truly love their jobs.  I do.  I always have, and always will.

After more than 30 years in the classroom (24 in third grade) I like to think I know what I am doing.  That is not to say that I know everything, because I don't.  I am what is called a life-long learner.

You will also see that I have a large collection of books.  I love books.  I love reading, and my goal is to have my entire class love reading, as well.  Once a child finds a book that he or she can't put down and/or wait until a sequel comes out, the hardest part of reading is over.

My lessons are hands-on, and not only in science.  I have a collection of manipulatives, science equipment, and just things you can only find in a teacher's room.  These are not for looks, but items we will use throughout the year.

I have high expectations, as I have found I get out of my students exactly what I expect.  "I can't" is not allowed in my room.

I spend a lot of time at the beginning of creating a classroom family and going over procedures.
