Another great day of hands-on learning in third grade

Another great day!

We worked on multiplication.

We also started a writing project that we will complete tomorrow.

We practiced finding the correct space using a grid, as well.

Tomorrow is our party.

Students measure using centimeters

We had a marvelous day. We measured using centimeters today. They did quite well.

We also read multiple books today and worked on comprehension and story elements.

We revisited multiplication facts today.

We did some sentence editing, also.

Third graders begin studying time

We were quite busy today.

We completed our Alpha Plus test in reading.

We introduced time. We added information to our notebooks about telling time.

We made an ornament with our pictures on them.

We also enjoyed the honor choir and the first grade programs.

Have a great evening.

Students work on reading strategies, complete the continental Christmas tree, and do some measuring practice

We had a wonderful day today. We worked on reading strategies. These will help them when having to work independently.

We also completed our continental Christmas tree. They caught on to using an atlas very quickly.

We did some more measuring practice today. We also went over the "broken ruler" lesson again, as well. I also shared with them why the zero is not the end of the ruler, itself. The ends get worn, so after time the measurements wouldn't be accurate.

If you haven't sent your money for our party this Friday, please do so. I am busy getting things together.

Class takes Alpha Plus math test, continues work on perimeter, compares book to movie

We had a very busy day today. We completed our math test on Alpha Plus. We also worked with perimeter some more.

We discussed our read-aloud after finishing it today. Many took an AR test on it.

We also took the first half of the Alpha Plus reading test. They were reminded to do their personal best.

We worked on our continental Christmas trees.

We compared the movie Cranberry Christmas to the book. There were several differences.

Have a great evening.

Third graders study synonyms, antonyms, and homophones

What a day we had!

We reviewed synonyms, antonyms, and homophones.  We also continued practicing using guide words, as well as other reasons to use a dictionary as opposed to a glossary.

We did some independent practice in math. We also started our Alpha Plus math test.

We also did some work with the atlas. We had a tree with ornaments with countries' names on them. Then we found them in the atlas. Then we found what continent they were on and colored them accordingly.

We are close to finishing our read aloud. It is such a great book, old but great. It is called The Family Under the Bridge.

It was great seeing some of you eating with your child today!

Students deck the halls at school

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The students have been decorating the halls when they have finished their work. They are doing a marvelous job!

In math we took our Istation ISIP.

In reading we worked more with our dictionary skills. We especially worked on finding words by using the guide words on the pages.

We also did some more with our Oklahoma packet in social studies.

A note came home about an event tomorrow. It said Will Rogers students could come between 4 and 5, so I sent them home today, rather than wait until tomorrow, in case you wanted to take your child and needed to make arrangements.

Please don't forget to send $5 for the Christmas party, if you haven't already.

Class learns about perimeter, reference materials

Today we worked with perimeter in math. This was independent work.

We also discussed reference materials. Today we worked on the dictionary, specifically. Some say students shouldn't have to learn how to use the dictionary. I disagree with that. We know that technology is not always working or true. We will continue with dictionary skills tomorrow. Ask your child what guide words are.

We were able to get our 6th observation of Max done today.

Spelling words are week 12 this week.

The holiday store is now open in the library.

Have a great evening.

Class does a great job in morning meeting

We had a great day, and a great morning meeting! I had so many teachers and students tell me what a good job our class did. I was quite proud!

We took our Istation Reading Isip today. I had many who raised their scores a lot! I was so proud of them. I even had some who were in the top tier who improved their points! That is a very difficult task.

We reviewed multiplication and had some fun review on Cool Math.

Have a great weekend.
