Third graders study customs from different countries

We had a great day back!  We started with some graphing review and practice.  We had to read several different graphs and transfer data from one form to another.

The rest of the day was covered with some centers.  They are having way too much trouble sitting still right now, so I came up with some centers to cover different skills in reading, social studies, and language arts.

There are no spelling words this week.

We read about different customs from different countries in a couple of our centers.  Then we read a folk tale about how tinsel came to be, and made an ornament at this station/center.  We made words out of given letters and had to come up with one word that used all of the nine letters provided.  We had a Christmas cookie puzzle book to read and match pieces to.  We also listened to a Christmas book on tape at another center.

Students participate in scavenger hunt -- with a learning twist

We had a busy Friday!

We did our puzzle using a grid today.  We found out the mystery puzzle was a gingerbread man!

We did a Mary Pope Osborn scavenger hunt.  We had 18 informational cards placed around the room.  Each had a short passage.  Each passage contained the answer to a question with the same number as the card.  The students had to read the question, read the passage, read the question again, and then answer the question.

We also read about Friday the 13th, and how some people are superstitious.  We had to do some higher level thinking in this activity.

We revisited comparing larger numbers.

Spirit Week begins next week!  We will kick it off by wearing our favorite Who-ville outfit on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Another great day of learning and fun in third grade

We had a great day!  We started our day with a vocabulary word search from our Magic Treehouse story.

We did some practice with our spelling words.  We used our words in sentences, did some phonics, and corrected misspelled words.

We were able to finish our read aloud.  It was a spin on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Be sure to ask your child about it.

We saw a great first grade program today.

We also started a new kind of picture puzzle.  It takes some effort and a little more thought, but we are going to learn the process. We used a grid to put the correct puzzle piece in the correct section.  Such as, B-1.
