Young writers work with quotation marks

Today was a whirlwind day. There was a lot of learning going on, but we were very busy.

We started with some more multiplication practice.

In reading we sequenced 8 sentences from the book Molly's Pilgrim. We worked in groups, and when a group was done, they raised their hands.  I checked them, and they went back to their seats if they were correct.  If not, they worked together until they were correct.

Here's a link to a reading of Molly's Pilgrim:

We also worked with characters from the book, while throwing in some usage of quotation marks.  I gave them 10 quotes from the book, and they glued them next to the person that said them. They were allowed to use their books for both activities.

In math we reviewed and practiced more multiplication.  It is important for them to know these, as we are starting to multiply 2 X 1 digits.  Knowing their facts makes it much easier on them.

In social studies we took a quiz over our first newspaper.

Have a great evening.  I hope to see you Thursday night!
