Students study history of gingerbread houses, then make their own

Our last day of 2022 was a success.

We earned about the history of gingerbread houses, then made individual ones to eat or take home.

We also got some silent reading in. I told them to get extra reading logs to keep up with reading times over the break. If they didn’t or one get filled, just wrote it down on another piece of paper!

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Students work with 'main idea' in writing

We had a great day! We also enjoyed the fifth grade program. As always, Mrs. Wilson did a great job with her students.

We did a math review. It had multiple skills.

We also worked with main idea. We first watched a short video lesson that explained it a little more with several examples. We added information to our notebooks today. We did a practice page over it.

We started our next newspaper in social studies. We enjoy these.

Today: choral reading, context clues, alphabetical order, math strategies

We had another great day in third grade today. I can tell that Christmas break is just around the corner, though.

We read chorally today and read where I leave out a word and they fill in the word. We discussed the book, and many took an AR test on it.

We also revisited alphabetical order.

We worked with different strategies for adding and subtracting. We used Base 10 blocks, as well and expanded form, to add or subtract.

Candy grams are on sale this week. They are a dollar each.

Your child came home with a piece of homework. There are only two problems on the page. It I different from other homework, as this one is already solved. But, it has been solved incorrectly. Your child needs to figure out what is wrong and fix it.

Have a great evening. If you haven’t already sent in your money for our party, please do that as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Tomorrow is dress-up-as-a-Christmas-character day

We had another great day! I enjoyed all of our elves!

We revisited adding/subtracting 10,000; 1,000, or 100 to a number. We also worked with forms of numbers, aw well as comparing larger numbers. I was very pleased with the comparing numbers assessment.

We worked with sequencing and retelling a story/book. We also. Had some time for some silent reading.

Tomorrow is the day you get to dress up as your favorite Christmas character.

I hope everyone is having a great evening with their families!

Today in third: numbers, grammar, a favorite traditional Christmas story

We had a great day!

We worked with numbers in different forms. The word form of numbers are still a little tricky.

In case you haven’t heard, the fifth grade program has been rescheduled for next week.

We reviewed subject and predicate today. We also did some individual reading as well as hearing a Christmas story. We read “Cranberry Christmas” and then watched the short movie. We made a t-chart and wrote down important parts of each. Tomorrow we will take the information and put them in a Venn diagram.

Notes came home about next week’s party.

Stay warm!

Third graders work on grammar -- subject and predicate, simple and compound

We had a busy day today,

Tomorrow is “Wear red and white day.”

We reviewed subject and predicate today, as well as simple and compound subjects.

We also read aloud.

We reviewed addition and money again.

They will be selling elf ears on Thursday for $2 a pair. The glasses they sold today were adorable.

Have a great evening!

Students continue to work on adding money

We had a great day in third. We revisited money and adding it. It went much better today. The decimal is still confusing a few, especially when it is two addends that are less than a dollar, but the sum is over a dollar. (EX. .89 + .79)

Those who I feel may have rushed through their Istation test on Thursday, retook theirs. We did the same thing with math. I made them get scratch paper, even though they didn’t think they needed it.

We made a few things for our hall. If your child hasn’t told you, there is a competion amongst the grade levels. I am trying to upload a video to put on the blog, but it is taking a bit. If I can’t get it to work, then I will just take several pictures.

Have a great evening!

Class excited about starting AR

We had a busy Friday! We took our math test on Istation.

We also practiced addition facts.

We started AR today. They were excited. We also were able to get on the Epic reading site. They may do this at home, as well, on any device you have. The classroom code is dnm0876.

Santa pictures are Monday. They will receive the pictures on Monday. They print them while they are here.

We revisited main idea, as some are still struggling.

Have a great weekend.

The Christmas store starts Monday.

Snowflake makes her appearance in third grade classroom

We had a great day today! The school elf, Cocoa, made her appearance. Santa delivered her himself. Our class elf, Snowflake, also made her appearance. Needless to say, the kids were quite excited.

Wednesday folders came home today. Our program lasted until almost the end of the day yesterday, and I just forgot to hand them out. I apologize. But there is allot off information in these folders. Please go over it. Also, please go over your child’s papers with them. If you spend a few minutes going over them, it helps them. It is important for them to seen why they got something correct, or wrong. We actually learn more from what we get wrong, then what we do right.

We took our reading ISIP today on Istation. We are hoping to see growth in a child’s scores. I will go over the information once everyone has finished taking it. Wen had a couple off students absent today.

We worked with figurative language, as well. Specifically, we concentrated on hyperbole today. It is one of the easier ones to grasp, as it is an exaggeration. (Ex. I could eat a horse. Or one of my favorite parent ones: I have told you a million times to take out the trash.)

In math, we used sports information again. The specific skills we used were sequencing and reading a chart/schedule to answer questions.

Tomorrow is popcorn day.

Have a great  evening!
