Class members continue their study of rounding, review ELA skills

We had another productive day in third grade!

We worked more with rounding today. For some, this is very difficult. Usually in math the answers are very easy to come up with. Rounding takes a little more strategy and thinking. Ask your child about it tonight.  We went over rules for rounding to the nearest ten and nearest hundred.

We did some more review with multiple skills in ELA. Each page we do has at least 6 different skills on it. We don't just do them and that is it. We go over each one and discuss why answers are wrong or right.

We were able to work on our rocks in science today, as well.

Have a great evening.

Students add drawings of rocks to science notebooks

We had a wonderful Wednesday!

We got to add our third rock to our notebook. We discussed how our drawings didn't have to be perfect, but I should be able to tell which rock it is by certain traits. For example if a rock has striations, I want to see them. This prevents blobs of all the same color.

We revisited using arrays to help us solve multiplication problems. We also took our Glad Minutes.

We discussed how certain passages are written. We also went over different formats (compare/contrast, sequential, etc). We added this information to our notebooks.

I received a few more permission slips.

Please check Wednesday folders. Some had work to correct/finish. We cleaned out our chair pockets and we found lots of missing work in some.

Have a great evening!

Third graders learn about rounding, improve descriptive writing skills

We had another great day in third grade!

We did a rounding lesson today. We discussed how if the deciding number is 4 or less, we round down. If it is five or more we round up. We made a visual to put in our notebooks.

We also did a writing activity. We drew a leprechaun, then wrote about it. Their writing has improved a great deal!

We had assignments on Istation today, as well as small group reading.

We did some more general review in ELA. We cover several skills when we do these.

I received a few more permission slips, but am still missing quite a few.

Have a great evening!

Classroom day includes language arts review, multiplication practice, math skills review

We had a wonderful start to our week.

We did a quick language arts review. We also checked it together. We went over why the right ones were right, and why the wrong ones were wrong.

We did a multiplication practice page. We also did a quick review in math over multiple skills.

In science we drew rocks that we are going to be working with this week.

I still do not have everyone's permission for our field trip in April.

Please send those as soon as possible. Book orders are also due this Thursday.

Have a great evening!

Class revisits math word problems

Our Friday flew by!

We revisited word problems, temperature, and reading skills in math today. Any time we work on word problems we are improving our reading skills. Some of the problems required  more than one step.

In reading we started a practice page with multiple skills, as well. Due to our Zoom assembly, we were unable to finish. We will finish it on Monday.

I only received three field trip permission slips today. Please return those as soon as possible.

We were given plenty of time for Istation, so there is no reason that anyone should not be finished with the assignments I assigned. I have been trying to assign at least one in math and reading, as I think it helps them get comfortable with all aspects of the device, since we will take the test on the device. I also like that I can give them a certain skill to work on.

Have a great weekend!
