Third graders compare stories, do spelling aerobics, review phonics, put numbers in order, and learn about globes

We had a very busy day in third grade today.  We started with a page that the students had to read, then follow the directions.  They were simple ones to start off with.

In reading we compared two of our stories, and discussed what was happening with the main characters at different times in the books.  We also worked more on our dream catchers.  We did a simple phonics review, as well.  We are doing these so that I can see if I need to spend more time on phonics with anyone.

I introduced spelling aerobics today.  Ask your child to demonstrate this for you.  Our words for this week are:

  • head
  • ready
  • rock
  • clock
  • snack
  • does
  • sock
  • mess
  • slump
  • pond
  • step
  • bugs
  • crops
  • jumps
  • mug
  • stop
  • shut
  • clap
  • luck
  • sick

In math we worked more with comparing numbers and ordering them.  It is tricky for them to go from putting numbers in order from least to greatest, to putting them in order from greatest to least.

In social studies we discussed what a globe is, and what it shows.  The one we saw today had the continents, the oceans, and the equator.  I taught them a poem that we will continue to use.  It can be sung to the tune of Jingle Bells.  This helps them to remember them.

Have a terrific Tuesday!
