Today: Thomas Edison, vocabulary exercises, phonics, rounding, measuring, maps

We had such a great day today!  We started by reading silently this morning.  I have some kiddos that are taking so many AR tests!  I have two who have already made their goals!  Congratulations, Joseph and Daisy!

In reading we read a third nonfiction book, dealing with an inventor.  It was Always Inventing and about Thomas Edison. That is tonight's reading assignment.  We compared/contrasted the three books.  Then we made a t chart and listed different aspects of each book.  Some fit more than one book.  Tomorrow we will take that information and put it on a Venn diagram.

We did a vocabulary activity today where the children had to match the word, its sentence, and the illustration.  This took some thinking and reading!

In spelling we looked at the different ways to make the long a sound. We used our words to sort into like categories.

In math we took a rounding quiz.

In science we measured the alligator we have been growing.  We also made a prediction about what will happen as it dries out.

In social studies we learned more about maps. We answered questions by looking at the maps.

Our secret word is candy.
