Third graders begin working with linking verbs

We had a great day back!  We were confused all day, though.  When we miss a Monday we get a little disoriented.

We started with our multiplication puzzle practice page.

We took our pretest in reading.  We also did an activity on the Smart Board that dealt with linking verbs.  Linking verbs are those verbs that don't show action, but make a connection to the sentence (Makes it make sense.)  I ___ working hard today.  We can put am or was in the blank.  That would make it make sense.

We also said, spelled, and wrote our spelling words.  We went over them letter-by-letter, and I wrote with them, using the document camera so they could see my letters.  It was a little penmanship lesson thrown into our spelling.  Some are getting very careless and sloppy.  From what I saw today, most are capable of writing much neater than they do.

We also worked on our pictures that go with our "Snowball Sentences."

In math we worked with time to the minute, as well as elapsed time.  There was a lot of thinking going on.  I saw several different approaches to figuring out elapsed time.

Tonight, your child should have brought home Chalk Box Kid so that he or she may read the last chapter to you.  It was a great book!

Have a great evening and stay warm!
