Young writers study how authors use words to make the pictures in their heads come alive

Today went well.  We started with some place value practice in the form of a hidden picture.

I reading we worked more with visualization.  We discussed how artists use drawings to show things.  But authors use words.  So when we read a book, we see pictures in our head based on what the author has written.  We also took our quiz over our story.

We reviewed nouns and highlighted the ones we found in sentences.  I read the sentences aloud and told them how many nouns were in each one.

In math, we finished puzzle pieces by writing the number in standard form represented on the other puzzle piece. This was a little tricky, as they were not written in order, such as 5 hundreds, 2 tens, and 3 ones.  They were scrambled, so that it may read 2 tens, 3 ones, 5 hundreds.  They had to write the number is standard form (523).

We also talked a lot about taking things that don't belong to us and telling lies.  We have had a few problems with that, and I will continue to address them.

Here are next week's spelling words in case you want to get a head start.
