Third graders read new story, work on spelling words, take math placement test

We had a marvelous Monday.  We started with some silent reading time.

Our helpers are getting better at leading us in our morning meetings.  They have to get up in front of their peers and lead it each morning.  I can see an improvement already.

We read a new story, Gary, the Dreamer.  It is about the author.  We talked about things we knew about the character and the story without being told.  Using context clues and inferences really help us as readers.  We went over several examples.  We also worked with synonyms and complete subjects.

We stepped five of our spelling words. We also put the class list in the room in alphabetical order.  Our words are:

  •      been
  •      believe
  •      between
  •      easy
  •      help
  •      leave
  •      left
  •      many
  •      next
  •      please
  •      sea
  •      seen
  •      she
  •      three
  •      very

We took the math placement test for the iStation program this afternoon.

We also made individual math manipulatives that will help us with comparing numbers.
