Students go more in-depth with genre studies

We had a great day, especially considering today is Halloween and children were very excited!

We started with a review of odd/even numbers, and some counting by fives practice this morning.

We spent a lot of time with genres today!  We took old book order forms I had, and cut out certain books.  Then we labeled each section of a large piece of paper with a different genre.  Nonfiction gave us no trouble.  But when it came to fiction, we had a lot of discussion.  Because we had to decide if it was realistic fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc.  They seemed to catch on pretty quickly, once we reviewed the description of the different types

We also researched how to prepare apple seeds for planting.  It is difficult but we started the process.  Of course, we enjoyed an apple in order to get the seeds.

Have a safe evening!

A busy day of learning and review for third graders

We had a wonderful Wednesday, even with the weather!

We started by revisiting one of our assignments from yesterday.  Since I had a sub, I think there was some confusion, so we went over it and corrected it.

We read chorally today.  We are still discussing genre, as we review other skills, as well.  Today we also did a sequencing activity where the students had to number the sentences in order that they appeared in our book.

We were able to go to Istation today to work in math.  When they finished there Istation time, they were allowed to go onto Prodigy, if they wanted.

We got to read a short passage about Buffalo Soldiers from our social studies folder.  It was interesting.  And until I taught third grade, I had never heard of them.  I love learning about our state's history.

On a different note, I would like to ask for your help.  Please talk to your child about behavior when I have to be gone.  I do constantly, but if your child knows you expect the same thing, then I think that will help them remember.  I had a few students who just didn't behave well yesterday.  And it wasn't just talking or little things.  There was some major problems with behavior.  It wasn't everyone!  Please know that.  But just a reminder to them about behavior whether or not I am here, or it is a sub, would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Class continues work on the important skill of following directions

We started with a page that required them to follow directions.  This is a very important skill.  They should be able to read directions and do as they say.

We were able to get the chrome books today.  We used these for reading/language arts.

We wrote our spelling words according to our desk charts.  These charts assign a color to each letter of the alphabet.

We worked with three digit addition, with and without regrouping.

There was time given to work out of our file folder games.
