Third graders write about what they are thankful for

We survived the day before break!  There was a lot of energy, but we managed to squeeze in some learning time.

We started by writing about something we are thankful for.

We read our book chorally.  Then we did a project that included the main characters, the beginning, the middle, and the ending of the story.  They had to draw and label the characters.  They also had to choose the correct section for each heading (beginning, middle, and end).  We made a foldable project to show.

We also took our figurative language quiz.

Class reads a favorite Thanksgiving book

We had a great day today!  We started with some onomatopoeia practice.

Then we read our book, Cranberry Thanksgiving.  This is the first book in the series that I ever read.  I fell in love with the characters.

We did another scavenger hunt today.  But it was a little different than the last one. Each child had a sheet with 18 questions.  I placed numbered cards with short nonfiction passages.  In each passage was the answer to the question with the same number.  They had fun.  They chose to call it a game, rather than the actual reading practice that was going on!

We also worked more with singular and plural nouns.  We discussed some that are spelled the same whether they are singular or plural.  For example:
The five deer crossed the road.
We know that deer is plural in this sentence because it says there were 5 deer.

There is no spelling this week.

In math we reviewed number forms.

Today we were able to test our predictions we made Friday.  Some of the items surprised us when we put them in the pool.

Class does science predictions on sinking and floating

We had a fantastic Friday, although a few of our classmates were out.  I hope they are better soon.

We started with some addition and subtraction with regrouping practice.

We continued working on personification in our figurative language notebook.  This was fun and easy to find in our poetry books.

We took our spelling test.

We were able to get in some math practice on Istation.

We did predictions for our science activity of "Sink or Float."  We will test our predictions on Monday.  We came up with random items and the children had to predict if they thought each item would sink or float.
