Busy day back: figurative language, roots and stems, a new book ... and spinners!

We had a wonderful first day back!  Welcome to 2020!

We started with some figurative language review.

We read a nonfiction science book today about roots and stems.  We had to read it three times.  Then we filled out a graphic organizer that dealt with new words and questions.  We also discussed some of the parts of the book.  For instance, this book used photography not illustrations.  We had discussed the difference weeks ago, and it stuck with them.

We also started The Hundred Dresses book.  It is amazing.  The first chapter is their reading assignment tonight.

Our spelling words are the days of the week.  We wrote them using our colored chart.

In science we made spinners and were able to bring them home today.  They loved making them.

I need all Thunder Reading challenges turned in tomorrow.

Have a great evening.
