Students learn about authors' purposes in writing

We had a great day today!

If you noticed, your child came home with a behavior chart yesterday.  Please remember to look over and initial each day.  I have learned that students on their best behavior learn better!

We did another multiplication puzzle today.  It was harder, as it was the factors of 12.  I wanted to see if they could use strategies we have gone over to figure them out.  We also  made In and Out boxes. These are boxes that have patterns/rules.  We have to figure out the rule/pattern in order to complete a box.

We read again today.  Tonight's reading assignment is chapter 10.  We are enjoying this book. We also worked on author's purpose.  This is why someone wrote what they did.  For example. our "Oklahoma" book we have been reading, gives us a lot of factual information.  Therefore, it was written to inform.  We made a chart for our notebooks to help us.  We drew a slice of pie for the top of the page in our notebooks.  Then we added the following:

     P-Persuade
     I-Inform
     E-Entertain

When reading with your child, ask why they think an author wrote a certain book or article.  It could even be a recipe.  A recipe was written to inform someone how to make a dish.

Have a great evening!
