Third graders work with commas

What a day!  The day after Halloween is always so interesting!  Some might even say challenging.

We started with another seasonal hidden picture.  They are getting good at these and don't realize how much they are learning about graphs.

In reading we listened to chapters 1 and 2 of The Chocolate Touch and answered some questions about just those 2 chapters.

We also worked with using commas today.  We used them in separating items, such as "I bought bread, eggs, and milk at the store."  We also used them in dates, such as "Thursday, November 1, 2018."  Another way we practiced was using them in a sentence beginning  by addressing a person or answering a question.  "Justin, will you be coming in early tomorrow?"  "Yes, I will be here early in the morning."  They seemed to grasp this, but we will be checking up on it throughout the year.  In fact, if your child comes home with a writing assignment, please go over it with him/her.  Help him/her to make corrections.  The more they practice it correctly, the easier it will come to them.

We also discussed and labeled subject nouns and predicate nouns.

Those who made their AR goals for the first nine weeks were rewarded with 30 minutes of extra recess.  Due to the rain, we had to do it inside, but it was still enjoyed by all who attended.  I kept the ones from my class and Mrs. Whiteside's class who didn't meet their goal.  We worked.  I am hoping that everyone meets his or her goal this next nine weeks.

Have a great evening.
