Third graders work with similes

We had a great day today.  There was a lot of excitement, due to them not having school tomorrow.

We started with rainbow similes.  For example, one said ________ is as red as a ____.  They had to fill in the blanks.  What gave some of them trouble was realizing the second thing had to be something that everyone knew as that color.  You couldn't say "The toy was as red as a shirt."  Because when you think of shirts, you don't necessarily think of red.

We also read one of my favorite books, Cranberry Halloween.  This is one of a series.  I have almost all of them.  This will be our reading assignment for Wednesday evening.  I have slowly collected a class set, and it wasn't easy, as they are often out of print.  Tonight's reading assignment is some poetry from our Wonders book.

In math we worked more with multiplication and word problems.

Have a great evening!!
