We had a great start to a new week. We started with
the last of the multiplication puzzles.
In reading, we read another tall tale about Pecos Bill.
This was how he roped a twister. Again, we discussed this, as well as
answered questions of different formats.
We finished our read aloud, Wishtree. It
was amazing! This is on the Sequoyah list. So far we have read 4 of
the books on the list. And this is the first year that I have loved all
that I have read. This year is going to be difficult when voting.
In math we introduced fractions. We added to our
notebooks. We drew a circle, then drew a line to trace it in half.
We colored half of it. Then we drew a line to intersect the one we
already drew. Now our circle was in fourths. We wrote true
statements about our circle. At the bottom of the page we compared the
two fractions, 1/2 and 2/4. By our drawings and our discussion, we were
able to determine that 1/2 = 2/4. It is so nice when the children can
figure things our on their own. While I may lead them to the brook, they
must decide to drink.
We also made fraction booklets that they brought home
today. Have them explain it to you.
If you have any shoe boxes you don't need, please send them
with your child. We need them for an upcoming project.
