Third graders continue to work with fractions, but at a higher level

We had a busy day in third grade. We took our ISIP reading tests today, and most everyone in our class improved from. September's scores. Improvement over perfection!

We also worked with our spelling words. We had to fill in missing letters to make a word and we had to correct the misspelled words.

In math we worked more with fractions, but on a higher level. We also did some word problems where we had to use our fraction knowledge. But the answer wasn't always a fraction. For example, it might say there were 10 boys and 1/2 had blonde hair. And they would ask how many had blonde hair. They are enjoying fractions.

We read a story about the song "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." We, of course, had to listen to the song. Then we summarized it as a class. We discussed  how we needed to include the beginning, middle, and end without using every tiny detail to make a good summary.

We are working on writing a scary story this week. (school-appropriate scary)

The walk to school day has been cancelled, due to possible weather issues tomorrow.

We are still taking coin donations. The class with the most will be rewarded.

I have received 7 notes about conferences. So far, I have been able to accommodate every person.

Have a great evening.
